Tips For Curating Your Instagram Feed
Hot topic these days: the Instagram feed. Do we curate it and make it “perfect”, or is no one really noticing, instead preferring the raw, real content? Who knows, but either way we do know that regardless of algorithms and feeds, that having a consistent aesthetic for your brand is a good thing. What's the easiest way to do that! Content organization and colour. Let's dig in!
FIND YOUR BRAND VIBES + COLOURS.
Colour is one of the easiest ways to create consistency in your feed. When every image is seen so closely together, it's even more important to stick to your vibe. Think about the atmosphere of your company, and how you want people to feel when they come to your profile.
Meditation studios like Moment Meditation obviously want to create a calm vibe, so as you can see, a lot of their photos have neutral, soft tones, along with their schedule posts. This allows them to narrow down any image choices they have when posting, and instantly gives them a rule to be following.
For us, we have a reasonably girly colour within our brand (pink) as well as some more serious, luxurious colours (navy and gold). But, throughout our feed we try to tie those colours in with some bright pops, some white, and overall that helps us create an inspiring tone to the feed. We place (almost) all of our design examples onto white backgrounds to make it easier on the eye, and every now and then we have a pop of bright yellow, because it's easier to use and show than gold. We also edit our images in the same way and double check that other people's images fit into our feed well using the Mosaico app.
Our vibe changes seasonally, as the weather and natural colours adjust, but otherwise there's a typical vibe and colour palette going on at all times. If you don't have a brand in place, or a particular style for your content, start putting one together! You can start by making a mood board of how you would like your business to be visually represented, and then look to see what common colours, styles, or even just vibes are going on. Pick out 3-5 colours from this, and you've got yourself the start of your brand colour palette!
LOOK AT WHAT TYPES OF CONTENT YOU WANT TO BE SHARING.
What content are you sharing? Just photos? Inspiration quotes? Tips? All of that content can be organized based on the colours you've chosen, and by doing this, you can maintain a good mixture of all the content. A great tip from our social media panel talk (grab the Ebook here!) from Anita, was to focus on 5 pillars; education, inspiration, engagement, spontaneous (like Instagram stories) + active (in person events, promos, etc.) In this way you can make sure you're choosing images from these categories, finding the right images to suit, and voila! your feed is more consistent. For more on these, check out our content organization post!
TO MAKE A CONSISTENT FEED, YOU NEED TO BE POSTING CONSISTENTLY.
Post! Consistently! And don't overthink it. Mix up your content, keep the colour tones and fonts similar at all times, and you've got yourself a beautiful feed. Seriously, if you want a consistent feed, find what's working, and keep doing it, consistently. Now, who can say consistently 5 times fast? 😂
