Meet Our Assembly of Oh So Fine Talent: Sara McCabe
We’ve just wrapped up our Assembly event - the unconventional convention designed for and facilitated almost entirely by small businesses - and we want to highlight each and every one of our amazing vendors.
Partly because we’re sure the day was a bit of a whirlwind and with lots of new names and faces around, people probably need a bit of a refresh. But also for those who couldn’t come and are still looking for a network of fine individuals that can help them with their small business needs.
So, without further ado, we bring you a brief interview with Sara McCabe, a leadership and employee training consultant who can help you get leadership right, which is pretty important when you’re the one in charge!
SO, WHO ARE YOU?
I’m Sara! A consultant who specializes in leadership development and employee training, a self described people person with an unintentionally loud laugh.
AND WHAT IS IT YOU DO AGAIN?
I help people oriented humans get their leadership right. I support my clients in uncovering and developing their own leadership style through my own mix of consulting and coaching (believe it or not the two are very different).
Regardless of whether or not they are directly managing people their ability to effectively resolve conflict, communicate their values, and make decisions based on their values directly impacts the success of their business. If employees are in place we work on developing systems that reflect their values, while supporting the development of their team.
HOW EXACTLY DO YOU HELP PEOPLE GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER?
I’m a big fan of compassionately calling bullshit, but I’m an even bigger fan of assisting entrepreneurs in developing systems and ways of leading that feel unique and genuine for them. Many business owners are burnt out from trying to run their business or lead in a way they saw someone else do it. We need entrepreneurs showing up, solving problems, and leading authentically.
WHAT’S YOUR APPROACH TO BUSINESS?
Regardless of wherever I’ve been in my career, whether it’s managing hundreds or just myself my philosophy remains the same. Stay curious, never get too comfortable, and people come first ALWAYS.
HOW WOULD YOUR CLIENTS DESCRIBE YOU?
This isn’t one word but I’m often told I’m good at breaking things down and explaining them in ways that make sense for clients
Funny ( again the laugh comes into play)
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START DOING WHAT YOU DO?
I had a self described “table flip moment”. I had spent the last 10 years building and working in corporate companies, but I’d had enough. I wanted to work in an environment where the actions and values aligned. That turned out to be in my own business, where I helped others do the same.
WHAT MADE YOU GO OUT ON YOUR OWN?
This job didn’t exist so I made it. I believe the way we’ve been approaching business and leadership for the last 50+ years has gotten us into a world of trouble. Employees are more unhappy than ever, and turnover rates are rising. I intend on changing that. Also who doesn’t like being in charge of their own life!
