Creating an Author Bio for Blog Posts in Squarespace

Today we’ve got a fun little hack for you! Want to add individual author bios to your Squarespace blog posts? You might have seen them on our blog posts and it’s a super simple hack just like when we showed you how to add sliding testimonials to Squarespace websites. Let’s get straight to it!

Adding an author bio to your Squarespace blog posts

HERE’S WHAT AN AUTHOR BIO COULD LOOK LIKE!

What an author bio could look like

1. CREATE A NEW BLOG

Add a new “Blog” page type to the ‘Not Linked’ section. Name it ‘authors’ or something similar that makes sense for you.

Add a new blog page

2. ADD A NEW BLOG POST

Add a new blog post for each person that will need their own author bio. As you can see, we have 4!

Create a new blog post for each author

3. ADD A THUMBNAIL + BIO

Now head into one of the posts you’ve created (or the first one if you’re yet to make multiple) and go to ‘Settings’ and then the ‘Options’ tab.

Add your author bio to the excerpt of the post and load a thumbnail

4. ADD A TAG FOR THE NAME OF THE AUTHOR

Go back to the main settings of the blog post and add a tag (not a category!) with the name of the author. Save the blog post and go to your main blog where we’ll now add the bios.

Add a tag for the name of the author you want to show

5. ADD A SUMMARY CAROUSEL

Find a blog post that you want to add your author bio to (it could be a template that you use for future posts too). Click the black line as if you were going to add an image or text block and look for the ‘Carousel’ Summary block.

Add a summary carousel to your blog post

6. CHOOSE THE AUTHOR BIO AS YOUR CONTENT FOR THE SUMMARY CAROUSEL

Choose the author blog

7. CHOOSE THE TAG THAT YOU SET FOR THE AUTHOR

Choose the tag you created for the author you want to display

8. ADJUST ANY OTHER DISPLAY OPTIONS YOU WANT

If you don’t have a bio thumbnail turn off the thumbnail option, as well as any other display controls you want so that bio looks how you want it to. We created our images in circles before loading them, so that’s also an option!

THAT’S IT! NOW YOU CAN ADD AUTHOR BIOS TO ALL OF YOUR BLOG POSTS

To make it easier on yourself you can create a template post that includes the summary block and duplicate that post each time. This will cut down on your time off adding the summary block and changing all the settings each time. Alternatively you can just duplicate the post you just made!
